Day Trip to Kutna Hora

The best way to get from Prague to Kutna Hora is to take the train from Pragues Main Train Station with the national carrier Ceske Drahy. Ther trip takes roughly 50-minutes and will take you to Kutna Hora HLN (keep in mind this is not the city centre of Kutna Hora).

If you elect to get off the train at HLN you will be a 15-minute walk from the Sedlec Ossuary and Cathedral. Ensure you buy tickets from the information centre located around 50 metres from the Ossuary as you are unable to buy them from the Cathedral or Ossuary. Another option is buying the tickets through Get Your Guide on the official church website.

Sedlec Ossuary (also known as The Church of Bones) was built in 1400 and due to people desire over the next few hundred years to be buried at a holy place now contains the bones of an estimated 40,000 to 70,000 people.

The Cathedral was built around 1300 and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Boasting impressive architecture and many hidden gems inside, including the Sedlec Monstrance.

Italian Court – Lunch – Gallery 

From the Cathedral you can either catch a local bus toward the centre or walk 30-minutes to the centre where you can pass through the Italian Court on your way to lunch at the cafe in GASK Art Gallery.

As a previous silver mining town, the Italian Court is a palace in Kutna Hora that was originally used as the mint for Prague and was named after the Italians who were at the centre of minting reform in the Czech Republic. There are various tours you can take at the Italian Court, including to the cellars, minting rooms, and royal palace.

GASK Art Gallery offers a relaxing place to stop and enjoy some food at the cafe and the ability to admire Czech art.

Saint Barbaras Cathedral 

Saint Barabara’s Cathedral

100 metres from the GASK Art Gallery is the Saint Barbaras Cathedral, walk along the cobblestone walk way and admire the statues of various saints to then enter the Cathedral. 

Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, Saint Barbaras Cathedral is one of the Gothic gems in Bohemia with construction beginning in 1388 and not being fully complete until 1905.

From Saint Barbaras Cathedral walk 20-minutes to the Kutna Hora Mesto train station where you will catch a 5-minute train to Kutna Hora hl.n station where you will catch the train back to Prague.
